BZ COMMUNITY CLASS
APRIL 05, 2010 TO APRIL 07,2010
FEATURING MARSHAWN NORRIS, ALEXIS AVILA, AND SHANNON KAY

MONDAY APRIL 5, 2010
JAYVEE DANCE CENTER - ALHAMBRA

MEET MARSHAWN NORRIS

I was assistant director of FBC (funk beyond control) in northern cali. I was signed with Bloc talent agency and am now assistant/ rehearsal director for breed. I am a dancer before a choreographer, but I do enjoy exploring my creative side and choreographing here and there. I love all styles of dance and I choreograph based on my mood. My style of dance can range from hard hitting to slow and smooth. I don't have any videos of my choreography just yet, but will after my first Boogiezone class. Come be a part of history.
Is this ok as far as the bio stuff? I don't really know what to say lol.

TUESDAY APRIL 6, 2010
FOCUS DANCE CENTER – IRVINE

MEET ALEXIS AVILA

Alexis Avila started dancing when she was 16 years old at Artesia High School. As a child, Alexis was involved in Beauty Pagents and acting classes, but never took a dance class till after high school. Immediately addicted, Alexis was overwhelmed because learning new aspects of dance ignited a thirst in her that she couldn't deny. A friend from Team Millennia advised her to audition for their upcoming tryouts, and although scared, Alexis knew she was up for the challenge. Alexis made the auditions that year, and remained on the team for three more years. It is here where she began to craft leadership experience as the Captain of TM Juniors, thriving as their leader for 2 years. Alexis eventually explored other groups over time, performing with Team Boogiezone Breed for over a year. She has also made the jump from Captain to Director, creating her own team called Sheroes, a group of strong-minded women whose focus is centered not only on dance, but also on service. Sheroes donates all funds they earn directly to various charities, among which include The Take A Stand foundation, and The Jennesse Center, a program dedicated to women who've suffered domestic Violence. Alexis eventually returned to the Team Millennia family, competing alongside her teammates (affectionately known as the “TM7”), for both Seasons 2 and 3 of MTV’s America ’s Best Dance Crew. Alexis continues to hone her craft together with her fellow teammates, and has now come back as a director of choreography with Team Boogiezone Breed. Alexis also enjoys teaching all she’s learned to other dancers.

THURSDAY APRIL 7, 2010
HYPE STUDIOS – TORRANCE

MEET SHANNON KAY

Shannon "Zenzele" Kay started her dance journey at the age of 6 as a praise dancer at church. After encouragement from her director, she pursued training in jazz, ballet, and modern dance, which eventually let to a spot in the dance ensemble, Pied de Grace (Feet of Grace) at Los Angeles Southwest College. While attending Chapman University she joined her first hip hop team, Pulse Dance Troupe (where she met the Chief Brainchild of Boogiezone), and was later invited to join Team Boogiezone Breed. She was on Breed for two seasons, took a break to let life happen (school, marriage, baby......not necessarily in that order, LOL) and now she's back as one on the Directors of Choreography.

What can you expect for this class? High energy, intricate choreography, HUD jokes, and a lot of fun. Hope to see you there :-)

FOCUS DANCE CENTER – IRVINE

MEET HIKARI

Hailing from the Bay, where she discovered dance as her true passion at the age of 14, Hikari came to UC Irvine where she joined Kaba Modern in 2006. Since then, she’s wasted no time growing as a dancer, training in everything from hip hop under KM, to studio styles as a dance major at the nationally acclaimed UC Irvine Claire Trevor School of the Arts. Since her early college years, she immersed herself into the dance scene and community, taking many classes and training under some of the most influential artists of this time. She's also dedicated to giving back to the community through teaching and choreographing for various groups and classes. In 2007, she became Assistant Director of Kreative Movement (formerly known as Kaba Kids) and is currently the Artistic Director. 2007 also marks a time when she found a love for waacking.

She made her first notable mark onstage with Shame, her waacking piece from 2008’s Vibe XIII, which undoubtedly contributed to KM’s 2nd place victory and her establishment as an up-and-coming choreographer. Her choreography was once again featured in 2008's Hip Hop Internationals, where KM placed 2nd in the US and 3rd in the World. More recently, Hikari shook up the dance scene with C’est La Vie, which continues to be one of the most talked about pieces from Bodyrock 2009, and also featured in Hip Hop Internationals 2009.

She is currently dancing for KM Legacy and wishes to train, travel, and teach. Her notable work in waacking has since become nothing short of a staple to the scene and has become something to always look forward to. She is excited to bring her sass and the art of waacking and her style to the dance community and beyond!

TUESDAY APRIL 27, 2010
FOCUS DANCE CENTER – IRVINE

MEET FARID AIT-MOULOUD

My name is Farid Ait-Mouloud i'm 28 years old and live in belgium.
I'm a professional dancer,freestyler,teacher and choreographer.
I started dancing pretty late, at 22 year. I started from nothing but i knew what i wanted to achieve, so i worked till i fell down.
Hip hop was my first love, but quickly i started also with jazz and even classical, i was told it was the base of everything but it didn't took a long time before i fell in love with those styles too.
It took me a few years to controle those different styles as a dancer untill i was ready for the next step. Choreographie.
Already from the beginning of my dancing career i knew someday i wanted to make my own choreografies. I started giving workshops, created my own style, begon my own group 'kabouska', till now. I think i may say that i am a respected dancer, choreographer and teacher in the hip hopscene, but that is not enough.
Every day i try to grown further and further, it is a trip that 's never gonna stop, because for me dance never stops, the end doesn't existed, you change every day, one day better, one day worse, but the love, the passion of dance never goes away.

I have also worked with Jawn Ha for an alumni show in 2008 and am very grateful to have worked with such an amazing person. I love dance and everything dance has brought to me in my life. If it was not for my brother, Joseph Aledia, to push me and be inspired to do great things, i dont know where i would be in this world, thanks Kuya. I love you GRV and i love dance just as much :)

HYPE STUDIOS – TORRANCE

MEET TROY AUSTRIA

Troy Austria was born in Royal Oaks, MI; Oct 9, 1987, and grew up in Saudi Arabia for 12 years before moving to California. He has been been dancing for about 6 years now, and it all started with a video game called DDR (Dance Dance Revolution) and came to the conclusion after losing some weight (20lb) that he needed to learn how to really dance.

He then became a freestyle based dancer attempting to learn how to become a bboy, popper, and locker.

After some time he was introduced to the choreography scene by the Filipino club (PSST) at his high school(Troy HS).

Upon entering college he was introduced to a team called Groove57 based in Cal Poly Pomona and was a part of it for about a year. This is the team that later became GRV based at Stylz Dance Studio.

He took a leave from Groove57 to find himself as a dancer. Eventually he joined Mavyn Entertainment Co. The people he met thereafter have been huge influences to his growth.

He has danced for numerous projects including Toy Box’s Inside The Box, Jay Chris’ Groove Movement, and Mappy’s Soulidified Project, and would like to create his own project someday.

Now he is a part of Boxcuttuhz and represented by DDO Agency, aspiring to be a better choreographer and dancer.

His freestyle is where he feels he excels the most, and is still trying to expand his musicality and sense of self. He is currently training in different styles to get better at House, Popping, Breaking, Locking, Whacking/Punking, Krumping, and Capoeira as a Martial Art. All of which have contributed to knowing his own body better.

Someday he hopes to be recognized for being an overall artist who knows how to translate music into movement with freestyle and choreography. In another sense he wants to inspire others to find the love in whatever they do as forms of expression.
